Retention and aftercare

Why teeth need to be stabilised after treatment: fixed and removable retainers, wear time and follow-up appointments.

Why retention is necessary

After the appliance is removed, teeth tend to move back towards their original position. Tooth position also changes naturally over a lifetime. The retention phase stabilises the treatment result.

Fixed and removable retainers

A fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded invisibly to the inner surfaces of the front teeth. Removable retainers are clear trays usually worn at night. Both are often combined; we discuss what makes sense in your case.

Your part

Wear removable retainers as agreed and clean them daily. If a fixed retainer becomes loose or a tray breaks, please contact us promptly.

Follow-up appointments

After treatment we check stability at longer intervals, so that small changes can be detected early.

This information is for general guidance and does not replace a personal examination. Whether and which treatment suits you is discussed at your first consultation.
