How fixed braces work
Fixed braces consist of small brackets bonded to the teeth and an archwire running through them. The wire applies continuous, precisely controlled forces. Because the appliance is not removed, it works independently of wear discipline.
Self-ligating and ceramic brackets
Self-ligating brackets hold the wire without additional elastic ties and are small and smooth. Tooth-coloured ceramic brackets are considerably less noticeable than metal.
Win lingual braces
Win lingual braces are custom-made and bonded to the inner surfaces of the teeth, so they are not visible from the outside. In the first days they can noticeably affect the tongue and speech; most patients adapt quickly.
When fixed braces make sense
For marked crowding, larger bite discrepancies or when teeth need to move over longer distances, a fixed appliance is often the established choice. We discuss which variant suits you once your records are complete.
This information is for general guidance and does not replace a personal examination. Whether and which treatment suits you is discussed at your first consultation.
