Why care matters
Brackets and aligners create extra niches where plaque collects. Without thorough care, the risk of decay, white spots on the enamel and gum inflammation increases. Good oral hygiene protects your teeth throughout treatment.
With fixed braces
Brush thoroughly after every meal, bracket by bracket, above and below the wire. Interdental brushes make it easier to clean between wire and teeth. Avoid very hard and sticky foods, which can loosen brackets.
With aligners
Remove your aligners for eating and for all drinks except water. Brush your teeth before putting them back in, and rinse the aligners with cold or lukewarm water — hot water can deform them. Keep them in their case whenever they are out of your mouth.
