Invisalign in Wädenswil: 7 Questions Our Patients Ask Most

Straight answers from a certified Invisalign Platinum Provider on Lake Zurich

Since receiving my Invisalign Platinum Provider certification, I have completed hundreds of Invisalign cases — from simple alignment corrections to complex bite corrections. The questions patients ask before committing are remarkably consistent. Here are the seven I answer most often, answered honestly.

1. Will the Aligners Be Noticeable?

In most social and professional settings, Invisalign aligners are barely noticeable. Made from a clear thermoplastic material, they are custom-fitted to your teeth and sit flush against them. A brief period of adjustment in speech is normal during the first few days — most patients find this resolves within a week.

2. How Many Hours Per Day Must I Wear Them?

The clinical recommendation is 20 to 22 hours per day — removing them only to eat, drink (anything except water), and brush your teeth. This is non-negotiable for the treatment to work as planned. Patients who consistently wear their aligners for fewer hours experience delayed results and, in some cases, need additional refinement trays.

3. Can Invisalign Fix My Specific Problem?

Modern Invisalign can address a far wider range of issues than the system could ten years ago. Crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite can all be treated — with some complexity limitations. The only way to know definitively whether Invisalign is right for your case is a clinical examination by a trained specialist.

4. Does It Hurt?

There is a difference between discomfort and pain. When you switch to a new set of aligners, you may feel pressure for 24 to 48 hours — this is the aligners working. Paracetamol is usually sufficient if needed. Unlike traditional braces, there are no brackets or wires that can irritate the cheeks or gums.

5. What Happens If I Lose an Aligner?

Losing an aligner is not an emergency, but you should contact us promptly. Depending on where you are in your treatment, we will advise you to wear your previous set, advance to the next, or order a replacement. With digital records of your entire treatment arc, replacements can be produced quickly.

6. Are the Results Permanent?

Invisalign results are as permanent as any orthodontic treatment — meaning they are stable for life, provided you wear your retainers as directed. At Lakeside, we typically fit a fixed lingual retainer (bonded to the inside of your front teeth) combined with a removable overnight retainer. This dual approach gives you the maximum long-term stability.

7. Why Choose a Specialist Over a General Dentist?

Invisalign is available from both orthodontic specialists and general dentists. The difference lies in experience, training, and case selection. A specialist has seen thousands of malocclusions, understands the limits of clear aligner mechanics, and knows when a case requires adjunctive appliances or a different approach entirely. For complex cases especially, specialist oversight is the difference between a good result and an excellent one.
